Only One

Some of y'all have read this, because I posted it on a blog that is mostly for writing - but it's kind of funny, so I thought I would repost it here:

Tonight I was reading the twins a Bible story, the one about Jacob marrying Leah and Rachel. It was a very "G" rated version of this story of course. The children's version focused on God's love for Leah, and how he created everyone to be beautiful and special and to glorify Him.

As I was tucking Isaac into his bed afterward, he suddenly said "There can't be two Mama's!" He said it in a "come on, give me a break" kinda way. He went on to say, "Daddy wouldn't marry two Mama's!" I said "Yes, that would be silly, wouldn't it? God just wants us to marry one person." Isaac agreed, sounding very perplexed, " yeah, that would be weird."

Then he held up one of his little fingers and said confidently, "There is only One True God, and there is only one Mama."

I like his reasoning.

Happy Friday! *Updated*

I just wanted to add a few things that I don't want to forget!

Today we went to McDonald's, and Isaac pretended to be The Big Bad Wolf. Savannah and all of the other kids really got into it.  It was pretty funny. They were calling him "The Big Bad Wolf", and completely playing along the whole time. They had so much fun it was hard for us to leave. :)  He also became interested in Ronald McDonald, and asked all of the kids if they had seen "Ronald", or talked to him. I don't know why he suddenly was interested in Ronald, I haven't ever talked about him. To me, he's a tacky plastic figure sitting on a bench.  So anyway, tonight when I was putting him to bed, he told me a fantastical story about a Bear, The Big Bad Wolf, Ronald, and Himself.  Later he added his Uncle Jesse and Batman.  There was a lot going on in that story!

Savannah had several jokes to tell me when I was tucking her in. She started with "Why did the chicken walk on the road? Because he is a chicken!" (giggles) She told a few jokes similar to this, and I laid down beside her while she was talking. I was getting really sleepy, and Savannah got quiet for a moment. Then she said  "Mama, if you stay in bed much longer, another joke is going to happen!"

Savannah has such a sweet, loving way about her. Isaac and Savannah are both so precious that I could cry thinking about them. So there. The Mama in me is so sentimental! Anyone else have that happen? Have kids and turn into a sentimental basketcase? It happened to me, but I consider it a blessing. Although tearing up during certain commercials on tv (or at random moments) can be embarrassing. ;)

The Question

"Mama, lets talk about, where do babies come from?"  This is a topic that Savannah has been very interested in lately, to my surprise. When I first heard her ask this question, I thought, where did this come from? I'm not ready for these questions! But I realized that she wasn't talking about the "birds the bees", she is just naturally curious about this strange phenomenon. I mean, hey, it is pretty amazing how a baby can be inside a women's tummy and then just appear one day!   So I talked to her and Isaac about how God puts the baby in a safe place inside the woman called a "womb", and then one day when they are big enough to live on the "outside", he brings them out. I also talked to them about when they were born, and what a special day that was.

Then one evening Isaac was talking to his Daddy about how he was born. I don't think I had mentioned that we had been talking about "where babies come from", but Daddy decided to clear up this mystery for Isaac. Joe said  "Yep, we found you outside, in a tomato can. I said, 'Mama, do you think we should take this little possum home with us?' She didn't really want to, but I talked her into it. We already had Savannah, so I thought we could take care of you too. We brought you home and have been taking care of you ever since. You're one of the family now, just my own little possum."  Isaac grinned and seemed okay with that idea. I interjected "Isaac, you know how you were born! Tell Daddy where you came from!"  He just grinned really big and said "I came from a tomato can!!"

The "Mad Face"

Savannah and Isaac were tracing their letters, and I heard Savannah giggle.  She had turned her paper over and drawn a face on the other side, complete with "angry eyebrows".  She said, "Mama, she is not happy, she is MAD!" (another giggle) Then she embellished the eyebrows a little more.  :)

A Couple of Pictures & Blueberry Picking

Picking "booberries".
Picnicking on the 4Th.

This has been a busy summer! Isaac and Savannah are growing like weeds, and getting funnier by the day. :) Last week we picked blueberries & they had so much fun! Isaac picked for about 30 minutes and then exclaimed "Mama, I'm ready to go to my home now!" I told him we couldn't go home yet, we had to pick more berries. Savannah and Isaac both asked me if we were picking berries to put up for the "long winter". We've been reading "Blueberries for Sal", and they think we are putting up berries for the winter, just like Sal and her Mother. Hopefully I will be able to pick enough to freeze/can for us this year! S & I are kind of wimps though, and they can't stay out there long. ;-) We were out picking for about an hour, and they started asking to go home and get in the pool. Then Savannah spilled about two big handfuls of blueberries out of her bucket. She had been picking very intensely, but I think that kind of took the wind out of her sails! Isaac gasped and said "Mama, those booberries are gonna die!" Anyway, we picked up what we could out of the thick grass, but we didn't stay long after that. Isaac got hot and flushed, sat down under a bush and started crying. Savannah tried to console him at first and then she started crying. Usually when one of them starts the other is soon to follow! Ha! So then I carried my big babies to the car & we went for ice cream, the "cure all" remedy. :-)

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer! :)

Funny Moments...

So, my husband has an abundance of chest hair, but is losing hair up top on his head. That may be a little too personal, but it is important to this little story. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago or so, when Savannah and Isaac were on the floor playing with him, he told them that the hair on his head was falling out onto his chest, and regrowing there. S. and I. were amazed.

Today I was getting Savannah and Isaac dressed and I said "Savannah, come in here and let me fix your hair!" Savannah promptly answered, "Mama, I don't have hair anymore! It all fell out!" I said, "what are you talking about, Silly?" She responded "Yes Mama, it all fell out, and it's right here." She then grinned and pointed to her chest. Ha! Then of course I had to tell y'all about it!

Bad Weather & Under the Weather

I'm including these two fun pictures taken when we weren't having bad weather, and we weren't "under the weather". I don't like to be overly negative, and I know how blessed we are!! :)

That said, I just want to say, we have been feeling a little poorly this week. Specifically, Isaac and Savannah have had a fever, and now have developed a sore throat and some congestion. Isaac got it first, and I didn't realize it was a virus. Yes, we did go and get ice cream while he had a low fever. Later Thursday night Savannah came down with it, and last night the hoarse cough with congestion started. Needless to say, long night! We have been doing lots of cuddling and watching "Jungle Book".

As everyone in Mississippi knows, we have been having bad weather lately. My heart goes out to the people that lost loved ones in Yazoo City, and Choctaw County last weekend! We spent last Saturday afternoon in the hallway with tornado alarms going off (several times). It is both a blessing and a curse to live right by the volunteer fire department, and hear the siren go off so loud! It is hard to keep 2 small children calm when the alarm goes off! But, needless to say we were (and are) very blessed, and didn't have a tornado touch down close to us! Unfortunately, we are having bad weather again today, with a chance of tornadoes. I hope and pray that it isn't a repeat of last weekend! Anyway, keep Mississippi in your prayers! Also, please pray for those families that lost loved ones last week!

"For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." ~Romans 5:6-8

Not much to write about...

This has been a good week so far. My Birthday was Monday, and I turned 26! Sunday my family had a little party for me & my sisters made a cake. It was really good, hopefully I will get some pictures soon. I didn't take any pictures myself. Monday night we went out to eat, just the four of us. It was nice!

Tuesday morning I went to MOPS for the second time. That was good, except that Savannah had two "accidents", and I only had one extra pair of pants for her. And Isaac had to sit in time out most of the time for bad behavior. :( I am working on that! Although he is very sweet, he is also very aggressive, and I am having a really hard time training him! After MOPS, we went to Walmart & I finally got some paint for the door in the living room! I have been wanting to paint that ugly brown door since we moved in! (almost 3 yrs ago) That evening some friends came over, and they brought a cake for my Birthday! I am really being blessed with cakes this year!! It isn't helping my weight loss efforts though(what efforts, really?).

Yesterday I painted the door in the living room a buttery color called "touch of gold". We have a lot of wood in our living room, so it goes well & adds some color. It was a beautiful day, so we were outside most of the day! :-)

Yesterday evening, though, was not quite so pleasant. I was busy making supper, and they were just getting up from their nap. Isaac came into the kitchen, apparently grabbed the sunscreen off of the counter, and a few minutes later I heard loud wailing and crying (and screaming), coming from their bedroom. I ran to the bedroom, and Isaac came out with a face full of sunscreen. It was everywhere, including matted up over his eyes! Savannah also had it on her face, although not as much, and not in her eyes. You better believe they got in trouble for that stunt, because they know that the sunscreen is a "no no"!! Isaac was miserable for a long time, it took awhile to get all of that stuff flushed out of his eyes! Anyway, he is fine now, his eyes haven't bothered him today!

We enjoyed the sunshine yesterday, and although today is rainy, we are looking forward to more sunshine tomorrow! Thank you Lord!
I hope everyone is having a great week! Happy Thursday!

Savannah Says...

I had the sweetest conversation with Savannah last night, and I wanted to write it down so I won't forget. It wasn't what we talked about, it is really just that we talked. It is so sweet that she is getting old enough to express her feelings and thoughts more.

Last night, at about midnight, I wasn't asleep (no surprise there), and I went to check on Isaac and Savannah. Isaac was sleeping soundly, but Savannah wasn't. She saw me and smiled. I leaned down to kiss her, and she said "Daddy is snoring, Daddy likes to snore!" *giggle* ( Joseph snores, wow, with VOLUME). I said "I don't know if he likes to snore, but when he falls asleep, he snores anyway. That is just what happens when he falls asleep." Savannah: "You don't snore." She shook her head and looked at me very thoughtfully. She had that "listening look" on her face. She started telling me about the cars outside, about lights at the window, and several things she had noticed. She seems to notice everything. She had her "Animals" book tucked in the side of her bed, and she pulled it out and said "do you want to look at this book with me?" She LOVES animals, and is very interested in everything about them. She has a nightlight, so we could look at the pictures without bothering Isaac. He sleeps really soundly anyway. :) She started telling me about all of the animals, and asking questions. She was mostly asking questions about the words. "Mommy, what does this word say? What about this word?" and she would repeat the word each time. I wish I had a recording of her sweet, cute little voice, and the way she was saying everything. We looked through that book several times. I finally realized how late (or early) it was, and said "goodnight" again. When I got up, though, she said "Mommy, sit back down, and put your head right here." She patted the space beside her pillow and looked so imploringly, that of course I sat down and looked at the book again. She put her face close to mine and started telling me about the animals again! She doesn't tire of animals! I finally got up and took her to bed with me. I know I sound like a "wuss", maybe I sound like a parent that gives in too easily, but I kept thinking about what a precious time this was, and how all to soon, she would be grown up. She didn't fall asleep in our room though. Although it was dark and we couldn't look at her book. She talked about how Daddy is a man and I am a women. She is a girl and Isaac is a boy. About Daddy still snoring. And by the way, "Aunt Missa", in case you have made it this far without falling asleep, she said "when we were in the Mountains, Aunt Missa taught me how to play with Isaac's toys. She said 'go away, play with Isaac's toys' " Then Savannah giggled like it was a great joke. ;) That girl can talk up a storm!!! Finally, of course, I had to put her in her own bed. It was a sweet time though.

First (and hopefully last, but probably not), visit to the ER

We were visiting family in Baton Rouge this weekend, and Savannah fell onto an iron and tile coffee table and broke her collar bone! It happened about five minutes after we arrived, and we spent a late night in the ER. Savannah has been great all weekend though! She is very resilient, and hasn't fussed about it much at all. In fact, my main challenge is to keep her from doing too much and hurting it more! Her and her brother are too rough with each other when they play, and I have to keep them "reigned in". Easier said than done! Anyway, we still had a good time visiting family, and I will post pictures later!

Thoughts on a Rainy Day...

It has been raining all day. I enjoy rainy days when I can do a little housework, drink coffee, maybe read a good book, take a nice nap, watch a movie, complete a painting project... Those are things that I might have done before I had children. Now I have to think of ways to keep two 2 yr olds entertained and busy all day (inside of the house) without going crazy. I love it, though. Two years is such a fun age!! Except for the potty training part, which is torture. I didn't enjoy finding piles of poop on the living room carpet today. But I won't talk about that...

Many times I wish that I could just freeze time for a little while, because they are growing up so fast! Their personalities are so different from each other, it makes me laugh. Savannah is my little organizer. She goes around the house, rearranging things, putting things where she thinks that they should be. I get little surprises when I open the cabinets. Joe gets "presents" when he puts on his boots in the morning. Isaac, on the other hand, likes to make messes and laugh about it. She loves cars and trucks, which is funny, because I didn't think that little girls were usually interested in vehicles. She is fascinated. She always points out different cars that she likes, and she remembers what cars our friends and family drive. Isaac, on the other hand, is too busy thinking of things to get into to notice cars and trucks. He doesn't stop until he crashes. His motto is go, go, go! His favorite toys are his Lego blocks, and his ball. He still loves to rock - he gets on his hands and knees and rocks back and forth in his bed until he falls asleep. Savannah and Isaac both love books. Isaac always wants me to read the book first, and then he wants to look at every page by himself. It is funny to me that he likes to look at books so much, when otherwise he can't stop moving. I'm really glad that they like books! Savannah is a little Mama. She makes sure that Isaac is taken care of, and she has stuffed animals that she takes good care of . Okay, she's a little bossy too :) The other day she looked at my fingernails, and said "Mama, we need to clip these". They both like play dough, and they both like to "cook". I think Isaac likes to cook so that he can get away with making bigger messes ;) Savannah loves to cuddle with me, but Isaac is usually too busy climbing on things, unless he has worn himself out. Then he will find some place to lie down. The slide at MacDonald's, under the end table in our living room... Anyway, I could ramble on literally all night, so I think I should stop now :)

Busy Summer

I haven't been able to post pictures lately, because of our numerous computer problems. We've been getting it "fixed" for a couple of months now. I am stuck using Joe's laptop, which has it's own problems, and I can't upload pics on it either! As you all know, I love taking pictures, and I would love to be able to post them!

Anyway, we've had a really busy summer. Almost every weekend we have a fish fry, or a cook-out. For the 4Th of July, we roasted a whole hog ( same as last year). A few weeks ago we went to Chattanooga TN, to visit my Aunt. She lives on Signal Mt., and we love visiting. I am always wishing we could stay longer :) More recently, though, Savannah has been very sick. She is much better now, but last week was pretty tough. She had a virus that turned into a respiratory infection, and she was miserable. She wouldn't eat anything for days, and I had to strongly persuade her to drink fluids, so that she wouldn't get dehydrated. She would cry and cry, until she had worn herself out. I am SO GLAD that she is doing so much better now, and that she doesn't have to take that antibiotic anymore! Isaac had the virus too, but his did not turn into an infection.

Today has been pretty normal. S & I have been "cooking", a game that they think requires water, because it is so much fun to pour water from one dish to the other, and stir stir stir. They enjoy cooking with their play dough too. Translation: giant messes. Savannah likes to make messes and clean them up, which is a good thing. I, of course, have to go behind and clean up anyway (she's only 2, after all). After lunch, I thought it would be fun for them to help me make pudding. Hahaha. We did have fun, but definitely at the expense of their clothes, the table, the floor... I made the mistake of leaving the room for a few minutes to get something. I came back to find Isaac using his pudding as a lotion, smearing it all over his legs, feet, and arms. He held up a pudding covered foot to me and grinned. Savannah had dumped hers out on the table and was making big "swirls" with her hands. I picked them up at arms length and put them directly into the bathtub. They had great fun in the tub also. I wish that I could clean the table and floor that easily... :) We then read "Blueberries for Sal", and now they are asleep. What would I do without nap time? ;-)

We have a "visitor", I have technical difficulties with my camera...

AAAHHH! I cannot download my great new pics of the babies, b/c I need to buy a usb cord! My cord has been chewed on or something and is not working. Anyway, I know the picture that you would really like to see is the picture of me, running through my neighbor's yard, chasing their dog through the mud in bare feet...

Earlier today, me and the twins were hanging out in the yard, having a good time. We have a kiddie pool that S & I love, and they really enjoy feeding the chickens, and checking on our garden (although I have a hard time keeping them out of the mud). Anyway, a neighbor's dog came by for a visit, and the kids were THRILLED. They followed him around, petted and patted him, talked to him, etc... Finally, it was really time for me to take them inside for a nap. I opened the door, and the dog dashed in and started running around. Savannah and Isaac didn't know what to think about that, and I started calling him and trying to get him to come outside. He quickly ran into the living room, grabbed Savannah's stuffed monkey (that she is pretty attached to), and ran back outside. Of course, me and the twins ran after him (barefoot, fortunately), through our neighbor's very muddy back yard. This seemed to be exactly what he wanted, but finally he dropped the monkey, and I grabbed it. Then we ran (or trotted through the mud) back to the house, with the dog jumping up and trying to grab the monkey out of my hands. I sprayed us down with the garden hose, and we made it back inside for some ice cream. :-) I know, I know. I have such an exciting life.
