Summer of Making

Our table is covered in text books and school supplies, and the red desk is empty for now, as I try to organize books and plan activities for the coming school year. The first day of 3rd grade starts Monday. Eeek. The summer was so long and so short all at once.

The summer of 2015 has been a summer of making. Making memories with friends and family, including a trip (not pictured here) to the Mississippi delta to see my Papaw. Making new crafts. Sewing, knitting, candle making, honey harvesting, etc.

We kicked off summer break with a tea party.
 Proper ladies.
Picnic and hike at Natural Bridge, AL.

Isaac collected rocks along the way.
 Vacation Bible School!
Cake with summer berries. Does this need an explanation?
Our first honey harvest. I thought the uncapped comb was pretty.
honey honey honey.
Swimming at a friend's pool! It's been a hot summer.

I taught Savannah to finger/ hand-knit like I did when I was her age. She picked it up quickly! This is one of her first rows. I am so proud of her - she taught her friends in our homeschool group to hand knit. She brought her box of yarn to show one of her friends and then everyone wanted to learn!
And speaking of knitting, I've wanted to learn for years and finally decided, why not now? So this summer I've taught myself to knit.....(thank you, youtube).  I need lots of practice, but am really loving it!
This is one of two quilt tops I'm working on.
And here is my beautiful girl helping out with the candle making. I used lavender from my herb garden and lavender essential oil.

I hope all of you are having a lovely summer!
