Snow Day

This morning, Joe and I were awakened by the sounds of two children running from window to window and talking in high-pitched voices about the snow. They then ran into our room to let us know it was snowing everywhere including, so Savannah said, on daddy's truck!

So I got up and they ran outside to play, got cold and wet a few minutes later, and came back into the kitchen announcing to me that it was time for hot chocolate.

It's been raining for DAYS around here, so we were all excited to see snow:

Looking out of Savannah's window. They wanted to show me the VERY BEST view. Of course I snuck in a picture - they looked so sweet.
Time for hot chocolate. (Can you tell Savannah lost another tooth?)

Back outside:
Had to make this crazy boy put his coat back on!
Beside the road.
A neighbor (David) brought his sled. The twins were super excited.

 Our home.
 Close-up.
Isaac was all energy and movement. I don't know how he got his leg up so high.
 Looking down our road.
 Gazing out of the window.
Pretty little stream of water snaking through the trees.
 Handsome Cardinal enjoying the snow.

Happy Snow Day!

Thursday.

Last glimpse of the tree:

Although I'm always a little sad to see the tree go, I'm also excited because it seems to signify a fresh start. New beginnings. New goals and aspirations. New memories to make.

"Still round the corner there may wait
a new road or a secret gate,
and though we pass them by today,
tomorrow we may come this way
and take the hidden paths that run
towards the moon or to the sun."

Christmas Pictures

I did not send Christmas cards this year. I didn't have as much time as I usually do! BUT, for all you Grandma's out there (MiMi), I took several pictures. Here are a few:
Saturday at Pawpaw's house.

Sunday with the cousins:
In hindsight I wish I had taken this picture somewhere else, because these stairs aren't finished and they look awful. but oh well! These kids are so cute, and of course I couldn't get them to look at the same time.
In Isaac's room, you can tell they were having fun in here! Also, Isaac was so obsessed with his new sword. He's distracted by it in every picture.
Monday at the Christmas Eve service:
Christmas day with his new "Hulk Hands":    (cell phone pic)
 Savannah trying them out too:
Christmas night at bedtime:
 We had a wonderful day!

I have many more pictures from Papaw's house and the Christmas party, but I'm short on time and will save them for another post!

I hope y'all had a wonderful, beautiful Christmas!!!

Living, Dining, and a Chicken Pen

Well, as usual I don't have time to write much, so I'm sharing pictures of our almost finished house. Get ready for picture overload:
 (iPhone pics)
This is a picture of the living/ dining area before we put the wood floors down and fixed the lights. And painted the ceiling...
Looking from the dining area into the living room.
Our coffee table is special to me. This was my Grandmother's cedar chest. She was a talented, genteel southern lady and I hope to be the same someday. I have lofty goals.

Love Norman Rockwell.
We're not completely finished with this room. I've got to paint the door on the left and Joe has some outlet covers to install. But I like this pillow.
The dining side of the room. This table is small and we're planning to replace it (with another family heirloom table, a story for another day), but it works for now. This was my Grandparent's first table as newlyweds, they bought it at a Salvation Army in Flint Michigan. My Grandaddy couldn't find work at home in Mississippi, so they traveled up north and lived in Flint for less than a year while he worked at a factory.

Another glimpse of the mantel / fireplace. I haven't really decorated the mantel yet, just placed some things up there as we've brought them in. My Grandparent's picture, some Christmas houses, small nativity. I know I'll change it later when I have more time.
Coffee time is an important part of my mornings. I found this cream and sugar set years ago in the delta (Inverness MS), while shopping with my sweet  Mamaw at a thrift store. It brings back such good memories.
Coffee on the front porch.

Every morning, rain or shine, Savannah has a heart to heart with this dog. She calls him "My Sam". She could talk to him for hours.

Lovely trees.
A tall cedar in our back yard. Savannah calls this "The Christmas Tree".
The chicken pen Joe's been working on. He's built it mostly out of leftover pieces from other projects.
I love this roof. We used tin from an old metal shed we had to tear down. I think it turned out really well.

Alrighty, just one more picture before I go:

The twins standing in the kitchen before we headed off to the Christmas Parade Saturday. They had so much fun. And Isaac's been wearing that hat everywhere. He says it's "Christmasy". We'll be walking around the grocery store and he'll suddenly belt out a loud "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!"
I believe Isaac embodies the very spirit of Christmas.

Anyhow, it's very late, so please forgive any misspellings, typos, unfinished sentences...

Goodnight all!
